Since 1836, the General Land Office has offered benefits to Texas Veterans. Today, we honor them through the Veterans Land Board (VLB) with more benefits than any other state.

The Veteran Entrepreneur Program (VEP), established in 2013 and in accordance with Texas Code Sec. 434.022. (2)(c), provides veteran entrepreneurs and veteran small businesses the tools they need to start or grow their businesses. Our team of consultants, who are veterans, business owners, and MBA graduates, are dedicated to your success and our program advisor ensures that our tools and processes help us deliver timely, quality services to veterans, family members, and survivors.

Free tuition at Texas public colleges
The Hazlewood Act is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, spouses, and dependent children with an education benefit of up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees.

Free legal aid for qualifying veterans
Founded in 1970 to represent Texas farmworkers, TRLA is one of the nation's largest legal aid providers. TRLA provides free civil legal services to residents in 68 Southwest Texas counties and represents migrant and seasonal farm workers throughout and in six other southern states. TRLA serves about 23,000 clients each year. However, more than 2.6 million Southwest Texas residents are eligible for TRLA services, a ratio of almost 21,000 potential clients per legal aid lawyer. As a result, thousands of low-income Texans still lack access to civil legal representation.

The American Legion’s mission statement, as adopted by the National Executive Committee in October 2020, is:

Fellowship, resources, and advocacy
VFW formed in 1899 in response to the adversities faced by veterans of late 19th-century conflicts, our organization has expanded into a global advocacy group with over 1.5 million members.
We continue to uphold our founders’ legacy through vibrant community service and comprehensive support programs, ensuring every veteran receives the respect and benefits they deserve.
